Most products sold by Best Buy can be returned or exchanged within 30 days from the date of your in-store purchase, or 30 days from the date your online order is delivered. The exceptions to this policy are cellular and wireless devices (details below) and non-returnable items (details below).

All products must be returned in their original packaging. The product must be in like-new condition (i.e., no signs of use), and some products can only be returned or exchanged if the packaging is unopened. Read the complete policy details below for full details.

There are no restocking fees when returning unopened items, or when returning most items that have been opened. However, a restocking fee of 15% of the purchase price will apply to the following items only if the original packaging is opened:

You'll find open box deals at most retailers online and in stores. Best Buy and Walmart, for example, offer tons of open box deals on electronics and accessories. They have discounted pricing on open box laptops, tablets, monitors, phones, headphones, and more. Frugal shoppers seek out open box deals to save on products from Apple, Asus, Acer, Dell, Google, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, Samsung, and more.

Of course, you have the right to get a return if your laptop is dented, scratched, broken, or is missing something. However, if you do not have proof of purchase, Best Buy will likely reject a return and refund.

An example of an open-box laptop is display models that have been used in store for demonstration purposes. Also, its products have been returned to the retailer because the customer changed their mind. All open-box items are sold without any manufacturing flaws or significant damage.

A refund without packaging will require a receipt, packing slip, or the same credit card used as proof of purchase. In addition, Best Buy returns that do not include the box or packaging must be returned within 14-45 days after purchase. The number of days allowed to return a laptop to Best Buy for a refund is based on your membership status, such as Elite, Elite Pro, or non-member.

If you have a Best Buy Elite membership, you can return a laptop for up to 30 days after it was purchased or delivered. You must spend at least $1,500 in a calendar year to be eligible for Best Buy Elite.

On the other hand, you cannot return a laptop after 30 days if you are not a Best Buy Elite Plus member. So understand the laptop return policy before buying from Best Buy and know your member status.

A refurbished item at Best Buy has been examined, fixed, and returned to like-new, clean, operational condition, with all components and accessories. In addition, Best Buy sells refurbished laptops with a warranty of at least 90 days.

If you want a new laptop, shopping clearance, for example, will prevent potential issues with refurbished equipment. But snagging earbuds and headphones refurbished can save sometimes half off select gear. Meanwhile, the price for open-box items such as those from Apple drops significantly once it's open.

You can return a laptop to Best Buy that has been used but it must be in like-new condition without any scratches, dents, or other damage present and with all its accessories, provided you return it within 15 days or 60 days for Total Tech members.

Before you buy, be sure you're familiar with Best Buy's return policy. Most products are subject to a 15-day return window, with cell phones, cellular tablets, and cellular wearables having a 14-day window.

For opened items, Best Buy tacks on a return fee of $45 for cell phones, cellular tablets, and cellular wearables (like smartwatches). Drones, DSLR cameras and lenses, mirrorless cameras and lenses, leg and body recovery systems, premium camcorders, projectors, projector screens, and special-order products all have a return fee equal to 15 percent of the item purchase price.

Finally, keep in mind that Best Buy's return policy is under constant evaluation. As the Best Buy site states, "Best Buy may run tests of the Return and Exchange Promise in select locations and may amend these terms at any time."

While all open-box gadgets are thoroughly inspected and tagged for condition and missing accessories, something may slip between the cracks. If you have a problem with an accessory or part that was stated as included, please be aware that they are unable to assist you in sourcing replacements, leaving you with the choice of returning or exchanging the item.
